While some cities obsess over new cafés, delis, bistros and artisan bakeries, Bangalore’s sandwich subculture is going viral — gourmet, unapologetically overstuffed, and impossible to eat without a little mess.
From a ₹40 toastie in Jayanagar to a prawn-laced sando worthy of a wine pairing, the city is proving that the sandwich never really went away — it was just waiting for its glow-up. Korean BBQ sliders. Pickle-stacked toasties. Fried chicken bathed in hot honey. This is fast food’s new crush, and everyone wants in.
We take a quick look at some of the sando/sandwich offerings in town.
Sandowitch runs out of Indiranagar as a delivery-only mischief maker — menu full of wink-nudge names (No Clucks Given, Silly Chicken), fusion fillings, and mini sandwich boxes designed for binge-watching and bench-sharing.
Sando Club’s gourmet sandwiches make their way to the table
The Sando Club is the city’s first gourmet sando shrine. Sando is a reference to the Japanese sandwich and is plated like a main event. Think Tiger Sando — crumb-fried tiger prawns, prawn mayo, citrus slaw, chilli oil, soy-cured egg yolk. Kaala Jaado — smoky grilled chicken, orange mayo, pineapple salsa. Shroom Vroom — oyster mushrooms, gochujang mayo, raisin chimichurri — veg with a vengeance.
Then, as a matter of interest, there is Hari Super Sandwich, the OG, slinging chilli cheese, chocolate cheese and gulkand toast from sizzling tawas.
The Hole In The Wall Café: brunch royalty — Honey Mustard Chicken, cheekily named “Ham Ham Thank You Ham”, and strong coffee for good measure.
Candice’s Gourmet Sandwiches: Indiranagar’s answer to global cravings — Banh Mi with a kick, Cubans that drip, and Melted Caprese for the romantics.
It’s the perfect storm for true sandwich lovers — global flavours colliding with local nostalgia, a health-meets-hedonism approach to eating, and the post-pandemic delivery service making sure your brioche never sags before it reaches you.
In action: The Sando Club team assembling the goods
“Your sando isn’t just lunch — it’s a destination. Layer it with flavours that take you places: Tokyo tamago, Nashville hot chicken, Goa’s chorizo. One bite should feel like you’ve booked a ticket. We always felt that Bangalore was missing a true sandwich-focused spot — a place where sandwiches weren’t an afterthought, but the main event. The beauty of a sandwich is its endless potential. You can reinvent every element: the bread, the slaw, the protein, the sauce. And yet it’s still everyone’s comfort food — something you’d reach for on a lazy Sunday or a day you’re feeling inspired,” says Misha Pamnany of The Sando Club, explaining, “the journey started with small, invite-only pop-ups at my home. We did seven or eight of them, and they gained some buzz on Twitter, which opened doors to food festivals and pop-up stalls. Those early successes gave us the confidence to take things further. We ran a four-month pop-up at Salt & Pepper Kitchens to fine-tune the menu, operations and brand voice — and now, here we are: Bangalore’s first gourmet sandwich shop.”
And where does the sando go from here?
“We love the idea of collaborations — from the culinary to the unexpected. Imagine a limited-edition drink with Red Bull, a pop-up performance by Hanumankind at the store, a creative link-up with Nike for some exclusive sando-themed kicks, or even a signature pen with Montblanc to sign your sandwich order in style.
At The Sando Club, we’re all about playing with flavour, culture and creativity. The sandwich is just the beginning.”
